Today, the Boyle County Board of Education decided the last day of school will be May 12. This will satisfy the legal requirement of 1,062 hours of instruction.
The final date for students to submit work (digital or paper packet) will be Friday, May 15.
Report cards will be ready for viewing on the Infinite Campus parent portal on Friday, May 22. Any other school-specific dates will be communicated by the schools (locker items pickup, graduation plans, etc.).
Why are some other districts getting out of school sooner? Or later?
Each district is unique and sets their own calendar. Some districts might have started sooner or later than Boyle.
Why can’t we just end school now?
All districts in the state of Kentucky must meet a minimum requirement as set by the Kentucky Department of Education. In a normal year, districts must have a minimum of 170 days and 1,062 hours. During the COVID19 emergency, the restriction on the number of days was lifted and only the hour requirement remained. For Boyle, this means the earliest school can end is May 12.
How will this impact graduation?
Graduation plans are being led by a committee at the High School and following the guidelines set forth by the governor. As soon as this is complete, an announcement will be made.
My child has a lot of missing work, will teachers be available through May 15 if needed?
While work will be accepted until May 15, it is best to get in touch with teachers by May 12 (the last day of school).
When will the first day of school be for next year?
The first day of school for the 2020-2021 school year is August 12, 2020.
How will students know their schedule for next year, or who they have as a teacher?
Elementary schools will post their teacher lists as usual before the first day of school. Middle school students will receive their schedules during registration day a few weeks before school begins. High school students have been working with their counselors to set their schedules for next year.
If you have another question not listed above, please reach out to your child’s school. All phones are manned between the hours of 8:00-3:00, Monday - Friday.
