During the March 9 working session, the Boyle County Board of Education received a presentation about House Bill 563, and during the March 17 regular meeting, the board had its first reading of the policy.
The board will hear a second reading at its April 21 regular meeting, and if enacted, the new nonresident admittance policy will take effect April 22.
Here are a few highlights of the policy:
Grade levels at each of the five district schools will be capped.
All applications for new nonresident students will be time stamped based on the submission of the application. Enrollment will be available first come, first served.
Any current Boyle County students, both residents and nonresidents, will be grandfathered.
Other details, including charging tuition to nonresidents, are under consideration at this time.
